Acres of Diamonds

“Friends …

I am astonished that so many people should care to hear this story over again. Indeed, this lecture has become a study in psychology; it often breaks all rules of oratory, departs from the precepts of rhetoric, and yet remains the most popular of any lecture I have delivered in the fifty-seven years of my public life. I have sometimes studied for a year upon a lecture and made careful research, and then presented the lecture just once — never delivered it again. I put too much work on it. But this had no work on it — thrown together perfectly at random, spoken offhand without any special preparation, and it succeeds when the thing we study, work over, adjust to a plan, is an entire failure.

The “Acres of Diamonds” which I have mentioned through so many years are to be found in this city, and you are to find them. Many have found them. And what man has done, man can do. I could not find anything better to illustrate my thought than a story I have told over and over again, and which is now found in books in nearly every library.

4 Symphonies of Stress

•September 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Stress is the effect of emotional and physical pressures on your

mental and physical wellbeing. People experience stress differently.

Have you noticed how much the world has changed in the past 150

years? Humans used to travel from one place to another on their

feet. There were no cars, motorcycles, buses, no – nothing! We

were still using the same method, used for thousands of years

before, carrying water from rivers in buckets and pails. In fact,

people relied completely on the strength of their limbs and some

animals to do most of the work.

In recent years, the rate of change has become almost shocking. A

middle-aged person, now living, would have seen all kinds of

amazing technological advances within their lifetime; including

telegram, car, black and white television, stereo system, ipod etc –

and is probably now able to watch everything that’s going on in the

world on a plasma television from the comfort of their home.

We don’t like change – and, in fact, humans tend to find change to

be most stressful. In this fast changing world, it is perfectly alright

to admit to being stressed. There are many different methods to

overcome stress and different people handle it differently.

The 7 Keys to Success

•September 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment

When I was quite young, someone told me, “If you want be really successful, find out what God wants to you to do with your life and then dedicate yourself to achieving it”.

At the time, I didn’t really like that idea; I did not believe that my life could have any particular purpose; and I did not think that anything God might have in mind would be of any interest to me in any case. Gradually, I have come to believe that what that person said to me, all those years ago, is true.

As human beings, we all share certain basic wants and needs: we have need for food, water, shelter, safety, love, respect and self esteem. We all share an in-built tendency, as Freud stated, to want to move away from pain and toward pleasure. This tendency is part of the human condition for our own good; it keeps us away from harm and generally helps us to make good choices. Most people settle for a pursuing a career that satisfies these basic human wants and needs; and never really think beyond them to what their life could be about.

Somewhere along the line, I came to realise that what God wanted for my life, and what I wanted, were one and the same thing. This understanding came after I had determined to find out what God actually wanted me to do with my life.

It was a profound moment for me. I gradually came to understand my inner hopes, dreams and deepest desires as being implanted by God. So pursuing God’s purpose for my life was, in fact, also pursuing my own purpose. When it really came down to it, I finally realised that I needed to look within to discover my own purpose; and once I had found out what it was, it then became possible to dedicate myself to fulfilling it.

So my message to you is simple: it is time for you to wake-up!

The Law of Attraction

•September 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment

One of the most well documented theories of New Age thought is the Law of Attraction. Simply put, it suggests that you will always encounter, in your life, those things which you think about on a regular basis.

There are many ideas, which have persisted throughout the course of human history, that have been blended to form the theory, so understanding it may take some time and research. However, because this ‘law’ essentially proposes you can achieve pretty-much anything you want simply by changing your thinking patterns, it remains one of the most interesting ideas to have been championed in recent years.

Though the basic idea itself has come under attack from a number of sources, anecdotal evidence at least, suggests that some correlation between thoughts and future experiences might well exist on some level. If nothing else, the proposal encourages people to consider the overall scope of their thoughts and emotions; and that can be no bad thing.

Many would argue that personal attributes such as the ability to maintain a positive attitude have a great effect on the circumstances of life; and so, at the root, our basic thinking might be found to be the ultimate cause of many positive and negative experiences in life.

As A Man Thinketh – By James Allen

•February 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Of all the beautiful truths pertaining to the soul which have been restored and brought to light in this age, none is more gladdening or fruitful of divine promise and confidence than this–that man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny.

As a being of power, intelligence, and love, and the lord of his own thoughts, man holds key to every situation, and contains within himself that transforming and regenerative agency by which he may make himself what he wills.

Man is always the master, even in his weakest and most abandoned state. But in his weakness and degradation he is foolish master who misgoverns his “household.” When he begins to reflect upon his condition and search diligently for the law upon which his being is established, he then becomes the wise master, directing his energies with intelligence and fashioning his thoughts to fruitful issues. Such is the conscious master, and man can only thus become by discovering within himself the laws of thought. This discovery is totally a matter of application, self-analysis and experience.
